Using FTP in Windows

Users Outside of Aerospace

Uploading Files

Use Windows Explorer to upload files.

  • You should get a screen that looks like this:

FTP Upload

  • Keep that dialog box open and then open up My Computer again and browse to the location of the file you would like to move. Place the two dialog boxes next to each other like this:

FTP Upload

  • The bottom dialog box is the location of the file on my local computer which I want to upload to the FTP. All you have to do is select the file, in this case it is called “Move” and then drag it to the other dialog box and let go. The file will then be uploaded to the server.

Note: These files will only be visable to people logged in through Active Directory from the Aerospace buildings.

Downloading Files

Using Windows Explorer to download files

  • Once you have done that keep that dialog box open and then open up My Computer again and browse to the location where you would like to place the file you are going to download. Place the two dialog boxes next to each other like this:

  • The top dialog box contains the file you would like to download to your local computer. In this case the file is called ‘Move’. All you have to do select the file called ‘Move’ and then drag it to the other dialog box and let go. The file will then be downloaded to your local computer.

Users inside of Aerospace

If you have an Active Directory account and you are inside the Aerospace buildings you can connect to the FTP site by mapping a drive to \\aero1\ftp or typing it into the address bar in 'My Computer'. If you want to make files available to anyone place them in the “Public” folder. If you are picking up files that someone outside of Aerospace dropped off for you, they will be in the “Filedrop” folder.
